BSoD is the first (as far as we know) and only (that we know of) 'Open IPTV' show. What does that mean? We allow you to make segments for submission. BSoD is a community project, no one single person will ever truely rule over the show. Since no one single person can 'Know it all' we look for others to bring their special skills, talents, and ideas to the community. Weather it be making segments, helping with servers, hosting files, or just suggesting ideas and letting us know which direction to take things in. Everyone chooses their own level of involvement.
How can you get involved? For now hit the forums, or better yet, IRC and let us know how you want to be involved.
More info will come soon, but click Read More anyways!
Video Format for Segments
Videos need to be 640*480 or 800*600
MPEG-4 Codec and MP3 audio would be fine. The higher the quality the better.
WMV works just as well. Format and container are not overly important, resolution and bitrate is more critical.
The show is native 640*480 to keep it compatible with all types of screens. If you do a lot of screencaptures and need the text to be readable, try 640*480. Hit the forums or IRC to find out tips and tricks to make this possible even with a higher screen resolution.
Segment Rules that you should loosely follow. We highly recommend you watch a few episodes and get a feel for who and what we are as a comminity before jumping into making a segment. If you dont want to click the link, here is the short:
Segment Rules
No blatent criminal acts. If something could be illegal in another state or country, please state it.
Have acceptable Audio and Video quality. Dont record from your cell phone camera. Subtitles are acceptable.
Please speak english. If you can not, ask someone to do a voiceover for you.
Dont be an asshole. IPTV is not a new way to insult people, places, or services. You may disagree with the quality, content, or motives of something/someone, but be respectfull about it.
Coarse language is acceptable in moderation. Dont over abuse four letter words. Anything more than what Foxx does is pretty much overboard.
Please do not discuss or reveal personal information of anyone without their permission.
No lude or disgusting behavior. No "call outs" or "shout outs" to your friends and family.
No substance (ab)use, drugs or alchohol, perscribed or recreation. We do not endorse any kind of substance use on the show, it has nothing to do with tech or sharing information.
Dont be a show-off. Dont boast about said skillz or abilities.
Edit your videos how YOU want them to be presented on the show.
Segments may be edited for time and content. Any changes will be approved by the original author.
Suggestions More info on the forums.
YOU DO NOT NEED A GREAT CAMERA! Screencaps are fine, webcams can be used for your intro if you like, but a camera is not needed.
No, really, no need for a cam. This is the number one misconception of BSoD...
Use a decent mic, good audio is important.
Make sure you have proper encoding for screencaps. Ask for help on the forums and IRC if you need.
Try to keep your segments under 15 minutes. Dont yammer on a lot, or drag out the segment. Cram as much info as you can into your limit.
Media Coder is an Ok file transcoding program. Or use Handbrake if you need.
Prerelease your segment, we can host it for you. Let others view it and make suggestions.
Dont take offense to criticism, we are here to help make better content, not be assholes, we wont insult your for your attempts. Your mistakes have already been made by us, so dont take advice negatively, we are here to help.
BSoD is about explaining, not just building or showcasing. Try to teach something, you may need to span across multiple segments
Segments can be multi-part, or even a series in order to cover the baseline need-to-know information before things come together. Collaboration with others making segments is often critical or generally a good idea.
Hit the forums for more info. Please refrain from sending private emails, as this is a community its best if you approach us as a whole with your contributions so we can help get you started.
